Project Goal:
To provide owners engineering and technical project delivery services for the project. Clean Technology Partners initial scope included review and optimisation of the previous system design (electrical, mechanical and structural), tender review, grid connection negotiation and key technical advice. Following contract award Clean Technology Partners provided owners engineering services including contractor documentation review, monthly QA inspections, progress claim review, grid connection finalisation and general technical assistance.

Due to the cyclonic nature of northern Australia, installing solar panels on rooftops can be a challenge for many existing structures. Clean Technology Partners worked with the Casuarina Square base building structural engineers and key structural consultants to determine an appropriate fixing solution. The final solution distributed wind loads to the existing structure in the most uniform manner possible.

Using complex load and generation profiling techniques Clean Technology Partners rationalised the electrical connection points and simplified the main switchboard modifications. This resulted in significant cost savings to the project and simplified the installation process. All solar PV systems are connected to the House Light and Power sections of the main switchboard offsetting significant energy consumption from HVAC and lighting systems within the centre. It is expected that the solar PV system will provide about 25% of the centre’s communal light and power electricity requirements.

During construction, Clean Technology Partners worked as GPT’s technical representative to review and optimise the installation contractors design and ensure the project timelines were maintained whilst ensuring that a high level of quality of the finished system. Clean Technology Partners is extremely proud of successfully completing this project in conjunction with the project management team TMIC Consulting & Compass Project Management and solar PV installation contractors, SunEdison. The installation at Casuarina Square is the largest rooftop solar PV system in Australia and is a significant milestone in commercial scale solar PV systems in Australia.
